3D Environment

My 3D environment is going to be a king of the hill map for a first person shooter, on top of the main hill will be a building where defenders can either hide inside or patrol the borders and take cover behind containers and buildings. The attackers will have hills and tunnels leading towards the hill so that they cannot be easily picked off by a sniper. I will include

Definition

A 3D environment is an interactive 3D world which allows the user to interact with the NPC's and the environment without falling through the map or passing through solid objects

Similar Games

A game with a similar narrative and in the same genre of my game would be Halo, when you play the mode King of the Hill, you have to defend a certain area until the area either disappears or is captured by the enemy team. You would stop the attackers by shooting them so that your team has time to capture the objective.

From the first image I can see that the map takes place in space which suggests an advanced technological race. The map looks well lit suggesting that players will be able to see each other, even in the darker areas of the map. The map has few shadows suggesting that there are no areas to hide making the game an almost run and gun game. From what I can see from the image, the map is separated into multiple players, sometimes giving them advantages and disadvantages. From what I can see it seems like the the roof and the yellow barriers pulsate and shift from light to dark and vice versa.

Picture Analysis

From the second image, I can see that this map takes place in an isolated location where they are researching an alien object. I know this because from the image I can see giant tubes exiting from a giant object and entering a station. This suggests that the people researching the source of the tubes is are seeking a higher level of knowledge and understanding and they believe through isolation, they will have an easier time searching through the objects systems because they would have fewer distractions in a barren wasteland. I can see from the image that there are multiple sets of tyre tracks suggesting a high amount of activity in the area, you can see the earth beneath the thick blanket of snow. The map is highly detailed to allow the user to become fully immersed in the game and feel like they are actually fighting the enemy as their character.

Rough Digital Sketch

This is a rough digital sketch of what my map will look like, it will take place in the countryside where two teams will be trying to take control of the house in order to gain points in the game. My final sketch will include a few other buildings and places to hide behind so that it is harder to be taken out by a sniper.

Final Digital Sketch

8 Things you would expect to see at a circus:

-Clown

-Strongman

-Ring Leader

-Fire Eater/Breather

-Big Top

-Clown Car

-Juggler

-Magician

Development Log:

Birds Eye View for Clowning Around

With this Bird's Eye view, I started with a plain grassy field. It is very simplistic and a great place to start from as there is a blank canvas.

From this "blank" canvas, I added the trailer park/accommodation for the entertainers. I added big and small trailers to allow multiple people to stay in one caravan or people to stay on their own. I have also added shrubbery/small trees for decorative purposes. From the image you can see that there is a huge fence surrounding the trailer park, this is because it stops any unwelcome visitors from entering.

As you can see from the image above, I have started to create paths which will take the character directly to their location but could be more dangerous than originally thought. There is a path heading towards the Barn, which houses the animals and the Petting Zoo.

From the image above, you can see that I have started adding attractions and the Big Top. The barn which houses the animals and the petting zoo has been added.

The image above is my final design, I have added all of the attractions, food carts and games. There is also a trailer by the Big Top where the "Customers" can buy their merchandise/memorabilia. I have also added some shrubbery and bushes and trees to the path/road heading from the Accommodation to the circus. I added a lake to give the performers somewhere to relax and even take a dip. However due to the meteor impact, this lake may become toxic or create additional enemies.

Point of View for Clowning Around

I started off my POV, from the perspective that the character, Giggles, will see as he steps out of his caravan when he wakes up. I have added the fence, grass and a puddle of mud. To the right you can see the side of the caravan/trailer.

Next, I have added this yellow-ish sky and added shading to it to make it look like the sky is burning and in a post apocalyptic era. The clouds in the sky have become dark and barely visible due to the meteorites impact.

Next, I have added the path which connects the locations together, Circus, Barn and Accommodation. I have also added a couple of the attractions, Ferris Wheel, Mirror Maze, Strong Man's Game and a Dunk Tank. The land that these attractions are situated on have become irradiated and become a fading green colour.

Next, I have added the Barn to the POV and added wear to the building. The impact has also shredded some of the paint off the barn and caused some of the panels to go missing.

This is my final design, I have added the Big Top to the image, and shown that it has been struck by the meteorite and caused the roof of the Big Top to collapse slightly. Also I have added a greenish fog coming from the meteorite, this is to represent the radiation that it is leaking into the area.

Unity 3D Environment

As you can see from the images above, this is the beginning of the creation of my 3D environment within Unity. I have made many alterations over time, this includes the texturing of objects, adding particle effects for destroyed vehicles and added a skybox with a sunset/orange sky to show the idea of a post-apocalyptic future. This will be one section of the map, as the game is going to incorporate certain free roam features, such as you can only go certain distances until the player either hits an invisible wall or an enemy kills them.
